Uplay, Traditional fuel of Punjab


One of the most famous traditions of Punjabi culture is making Dung Cakes. The main leftovers of a cattle farm are known as Dung.  It is very common in rural areas. Dung cakes are known as Uplay, made from cows waste. These cakes are made with cows Dung by molding it with bare hands with curvature that keeps it stuck on the walls and they are dried. The sizes and shapes of the Dung Cake may vary. Women in the villages are fond of making these Dung Cakes. And uses them to burn their stoves. They are a Source of Energy. Cow Dung is one of the best forms of Natural Fertilizer.

This is a bio fuel used which is in use from ages. It is easily available and Cheap Fuel. They are burned and used in earthen ovens as well. Another growing trend is the use of cow dung in producing bio-gas, a cheap alternative source of energy that can be used as a fuel for cooking or to even produce electricity. Even the ashes of the cows dung are used as hand wash that can kill many harmful germs.
